BACKGROUND

Get to Know More

This research was inspired by my observations of how my peers use smartphones, as well as my reflections on the mobile phone policy at my school. While smartphone use among adults (aged 18 and above) is generally accepted with little controversy, there is still ongoing debate about whether secondary school students should use smartphones, and how to ensure they use them in a healthy and responsible way. So far, academic research—both qualitative and quantitative—has not reached a clear consensus on this issue. Meanwhile, the connection between smartphone technology and adolescent development remains a highly relevant and important topic.

This study uses a group of local teenagers as the initial sample, aiming to understand both their actual smartphone usage and their personal opinions on the matter. In the future, the research will expand its sample size and apply both cross-sectional and longitudinal methods. This will allow a deeper exploration of young people's smartphone habits, the challenges they face, and the reasons behind them. Ultimately, the goal is to propose practical solutions and recommendations, offering useful insights for policies that support the healthy and balanced use of smartphones among adolescents.
